Hello again, FutureFans! It is I, TomorrowLad! This week, we’re going to talk about a simply electrifying concept that I think you’ll really get a charge out of: the Electronic Roadway!
Forget gas and other fossil fuels! Forget ethanol and whatthenol! The future is electric automobiles (although I’m holding out for a model that can fly). But the switchover to electricity-as-fuel doesn’t really solve the problem of having to stop and refuel, though.
Or does it?
As BBC News reports here, the solution may lie with a concept that builds on work done originally at MIT in 2006: wireless charging. In this case, magnetic coils built into the road itself would provide the charge to car batteries as the automobile glides on down the highway.
How long until we can use superconductors and magnetic coils to make hovercars? No offense to the wheel and all, it’s a great invention, but, seriously, hovercars!!!
Or, better, yet, hoverboards!
But I digress…quite a long road to travel before we get there. Or is it…?
